Pedestrian Detection

The groundbreaking Pedestrian Detection technology with Full Auto Brake System has been integrated into the new S60. It detects objects/pedestrians in front of the car or those which may step out in front and also calculates the distance of the object/person using a dual-mode radar and a high resolution camera installed into the exterior of the car. The full auto brake also responds to vehicles at a standstill in front of the car or cars that are moving in the same direction.

In an emergency situation, the driver initially receives an audible warning as well as a flashing light. At the same time the car’s brakes are pre-charged so that if the driver does not react to the warning full braking power is automatically applied.

Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake has the ability to avoid collision with a pedestrian at speeds of up to 21mph in instances where the driver does not react in time. At higher speeds, the the car’s speed is reduced (by up to 21mph) prior to the impact.

The Volvo S60 also features the innovative City Safety technology, as seen in the XC60, which reduces or entirely avoids low-speed rear end impacts.

There are also a number of additional safety systems available including Driver Alert Control and Blind Spot Information System.
